Working within a heritage building presented significant design limitations and logistical constraints. A complete roof replacement was required, stretching the project’s budget and placing pressure on material choices. The challenge was to retain the building’s character while meeting ambitious BREEAM targets and improving operational efficiency.
RedSix undertook a staged embodied carbon analysis – initial baseline (Stage 3), detailed design (Stage 4), and upcoming as-built analysis, to track improvements and validate reductions. Using LCA tools and industry benchmarks, we supported the design team in identifying and mitigating high-carbon elements through alternative materials like hollowcore slabs and recycled steel.
