Aeron Valley School represents the future of sustainable education in Wales. Commissioned by Ceredigion County Council and delivered by Wynne Construction, this 2,457m² education facility was assessed under the BREEAM 2018 New Construction fully fitted scheme. RedSix provided both BREEAM Assessment and AP (Advisory Professional) services throughout, contributing to the project’s Outstanding final score of 93.69% – the highest ever awarded to an education building under this scheme in the UK.

Under 2018 New Construction BREEAM Scheme
From the outset, the ambition was clear: to set a new benchmark for sustainable educational buildings. Achieving BREEAM Outstanding while meeting the functional needs of a modern school posed a challenge in balancing innovation with practicality. RedSix was tasked with embedding sustainability at every stage while navigating evolving project demands and ensuring compliance with key BREEAM energy credits (Ene01 and Ene04).
Our involvement began early, working closely with Ceredigion County Council to shape a strategy that aligned with their sustainability goals. Through regular AP site visits and integrated design reviews, we ensured that sustainable decisions were embedded from the ground up. We collaborated with Wynne Construction during both design and post-construction phases to future-proof energy systems, oversee rigorous evidence collation, and ensure compliance with complex criteria. The project featured renewable technologies, including air source heat pumps and solar panels, supporting the building’s Net Zero Carbon credentials.
