The new student building, Archbishop George Stack Centre For Learning, at St David’s College sets a benchmark for sustainable design and construction in education. With a total area of 1,153m², the project achieved a BREEAM Very Good rating of 60.1% under the BREEAM 2018 New Construction fully fitted scheme. As both the BREEAM Assessor and Advisory Professional (AP), RedSix played a pivotal role in ensuring the building not only met but exceeded the college’s sustainability aspirations.

The key challenge was to deliver a modern, functional educational facility that respected the college’s wider sustainability goals and campus context. This involved balancing new-build efficiency with integration into the existing shared facilities, while navigating complex BREEAM compliance requirements.
As both the BREEAM assessor and AP, we worked closely with the project team to develop a comprehensive sustainability strategy that seamlessly integrated the new building into the college’s existing campus. This required a thorough understanding of shared facilities and their potential impact on compliance. Through regular site visits, design workshops, and ongoing communication, we provided proactive advice to ensure that sustainability measures were fully embedded from the outset. Our collaborative approach meant challenges were swiftly addressed and resolved, helping to maintain momentum while delivering a building that truly supports St David’s College’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
